Weeks 7 & 8

Looks like I'm starting to get a little behind already! But it is the middle of summer, and we've been traveling a bit, so I guess I'm excused. So, here is the rundown of the last two weeks:

Week 7

Pick-up: (my memory is too foggy to remember everything, so I'll do the best I can)
1 1/2 pounds potatoes
squash
carrots
beets
4 large tomatoes
4 small tomatoes - we were sooooooo happy to get our first tomatoes!
garlic
onions
1 head romaine lettuce
I'm sure there was more, but I just can't remember at this point - I really need to update our blog more often!!!

U-pick:
We picked some assorted herbs for a dish that Steve wanted to make.


Week 8

Pick-up:
1 1/2 pounds potatoes
12 ears corn
3 squashes (choice of yellow or green)
1 bunch carrots
1 bunch beets
2 heads garlic
3 onions
1 purple pepper
2 green peppers
2 asian cucumbers
6 cucumbers
8 large tomatoes
11 small tomatoes

U-pick:
With so much food this week, we decided we didn't need to pick anything. Also, it was one of the hottest days of the year, so we were in a hurry to get out of the heat!

Our CSA is now selling beef from Pasture's Pride near Kutztown. I bought some Delmonico steaks for my Dad for his birthday (he is always a challenge to shop for!), and we got a T-bone steak to split for dinner.

There wasn't a need for a lot of prep work - I just washed up the tomatoes and put them in a big bowl in the fridge so they'd be ready to cut up and eat. We took a bunch of the tomatoes to my parent's house for dinner on Wednesday, along with a delicious cucumber salad that Steve made.

I'll try to get some more recipes in here soon. With all of these delicious whole vegetables, we've been mostly just chopping them up and eating them by themselves.
